PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM
Parking Brake System Operation: The parking brake system consists of a brake drum and an inner and
outer brake shoe assembly, mounted on the transfer case. It is manually controlled by a cable and control
lever mounted on the cab floor. The major components of the parking brake system are as follows:
A PARKING BRAKE CONTROL LEVER Applies parking brake when pulled to raised position. When
lowered, parking brake is released.

ADJUSTING KNOB Permits operator to make minor tension adjustment in parking brake cable.
C
PARKING BRAKE CABLE Links parking brake lever to actuating lever.
D
BRAKEDRUM Provides surface for brakeshoes to press against when parking brake is applied.
E
ACTUATING LEVER Forces inner and outer brakeshoes against brakedrum when parking brake
control lever is raised.
F
PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTING SCREW Used to ensure full contact of brakeshoes with
brakedrum.
G
BRAKESHOES Both apply friction to brakedrum when parking brake control lever is raised.
H
ECCENTRIC PIN Equalizes distance between brakeshoes and brakedrum.
