Gears that are not put back in matched sets generally
are noisy at first. After new gear and mating old gear
have been run in, noise usually disappears.
1.
Paint teeth of bevel pinion gear (1) with red lead or Prussian blue.
2.
Turn gears (1 and 2) and note contact marks. Pattern A shows correct tooth
contact.
