INSTALL TEST PROBE CABLE W2 DO OFFSET TEST:
Connect test probe cable W2 to J4 on VTM.
Short red and black clip leads of W2 together.
Dial 89 into TEST SELECT switches.
PROMPTING
Press and hold TEST until CAL message
MESSAGE
appears on display.
Release TEST.
Wait for offset value to appear on display.
Is offset value within limits of 6.8 to +6.8?
YES
NO
STE/ICE-R is bad. Replace.

Connect red clip lead of cable W2 to
positive post of battery being tested.
Connect black clip lead of cable W2 to
negative post of battery being tested.

CONDITION CURRENT PROBE DO OFFSET:
Clamp current probe around battery cable
that connects the vehicle batteries in series.
Point arrow on current probe toward the
negative post as shown on the next page.
Press TEST.
Check battery electrolyte level.
Attempt to crank engine for several cycles.
Clean battery terminals.
Is number displayed greater than 9.6 volts?
Refer to Troubleshooting Index (WP 0009 00) to
check battery specific gravity.
Charge battery, if necessary.
YES
NO
Retest.
If 9.6 volts or greater is present, go to step 3. If
less, replace battery (WP 0127 00).
Proceed to the next page.
