CHECK FIELD CURRENT:
Install current probe around wire No. 1 of
alternator to regulator cables.
Point arrow on current probes toward alternator.
PROMPTING
MESSAGE
Dial 90 into TEST SELECT switches.
Press and hold TEST until CAL message appears.
Release TEST.
NOTE
On systems with separate rectifiers,
current probe may be placed around
wire mounts on alternator to
Start vehicle engine (TM 9-2320-361-10).

Set engine speed at a fast idle speed (1200 RPM).
Turn headlights and accessories ON.
Press TEST.
Compare number on VTM display with values
given below.
Shut off engine.
Is current within range?
YES
NO
Replace alternator (WP 0085 00).
Refer to Electrical Troubleshooting Index
(WP 0011 00) to check continuity of cables
NOTE
from regulator to alternator using STE/ICE-R.
After completing repair, rerun GO Chain
If cables are OK, further check charging
tests (WP 0017 00) to verify that problem
system of STE/ICE-R.
is fixed and no other problems exist.
