OIL SYSTEM
Oil System Operation: The oil system provides lubrication for internal engine parts. The major
components of the engine oil system are as follows:
A CRANKCASE BREATHER Vents engine crankcase.
B OIL FILLER CAP Covers engine oil fill opening.
C OIL DIPSTICK Used to indicate engine oil level.
D OIL PRESSURE TRANSMITTER Sends an electrical signal indicating engine oil pressure to the
oil pressure gauge on instrument panel.
E
OIL FILTERS Filters oil of dirt and other foreign material to help ensure flow of uncontaminated
oil to engine.
F
OIL COOLER Removes excess heat from engine oil as coolant circulates through internal tubes of
oil cooler.
G
OIL PAN Reservoir for engine oil.
H
ENGINE OIL PAN DRAINPLUGS When removed, allows oil to be drained from engine.
